Material was also... I dunno, weird. And the back seat was shit, the shifter crap, and steering feel way too numb. And the steering wheel itself was a weird shape, made my hands feel weird. These are econoboxes in the purest sense of the word. And they don’t even get phenomenal fuel economy, they get about what I got in my old Elantra.

The value in any Toyota stripper will always be solely the longevity/reliability. They don’t offer sophisticated engines, anything fast, or anything terribly efficient.

yeeeeeeeah but at 3500, it’s still kind of a hard sell when it’s realistically not going to be much more robust than anything else on the market. It’s not the 90s anymore, when everything Toyota made was a cut above the rest. The rest caught up.

We have a 2001 Echo (4 door). It’s essentially the same car. Ours has 354,000 miles on it and until the transmission recently started slipping, we’ve had very little trouble from it. They are not what I’d call a “fun” car, but if you need a car with a lot of longevity that will be pretty reliable, this will get you there. I should note that since ours is an automatic it’s especially boring. I did test drive a 5 speed recently that (aside from the horrifying torque steer) was a lot more fun. I think it had some suspension problems that caused the torque steer.

Test drove some for my dad. They rust around the rear wheel well on the inside before pics show it , garbage wet noodle steering (yet somehow not electric), and felt weirdly tall chucking it into corners. The digital dash and tac was freaking sweet (reminds me of the S2000’s) and it took me awhile to see past it to the rest of the car. Tons of space in the engine bay though.

Other comments nail it on the head: it’s a Toyota so it WILL be a good car, but it will also be just ‘a’ car.

My MR2 is for sale currently, I know it’s a long distance for you though. Yaris looks alright but I’d recommend keeping the Solara.

Solara is an extremely comfortable, fairly quick, exceptionally reliable vehicle. It is however, quite heavy, an automatic, and get about 25 mpg. I’ve grown to rather like it it, styling and all. However I feel I could do with a more fuel efficient, slower car now hat I have a motorcycle for fun riding.
